What can curiosity do in times of crisis?

Currently, the Middle East is experiencing different predicaments. Most of us are aware of what is going on through the media. Yet, do we even realize that watching the news or reading tweets about the ISIS bombing wouldn't do anything? It is for a fact that we do not have the power to stop what is occurring. However, if each one helped each other to be aware and be less ignorant of the current situation, then when the time comes we would not be shocked why this is all happening.
I have always been one of the most curious people. Many do not realize how we are so carried away with our "not so big" problems, yet we do not think about the number of people starving. "It is not your fault that they are starving.", a friend of mine told me. It is true; it is not my fault. However, I being less ignorant of the present situation and by helping people by giving a portion of what I have instead of spending it on something that I do not need; it helps them, a lot.
For my project, I chose a bombed house background in the Middle East. And I chose three sub-subjects and one main subject. I also transformed the pictures into an old photo to give it a vintage feel. This is because it lessens the dullness and gives it more emotion. I used three different events on what is going on in Syria, and I adjusted their opacity so that they would blend with the background. I chose these subjects because they relate to each other --- the baby and her mother was affected by the bombing. Thus, many seemed revenge which is symbolized by the soldier. Because of their revenge, teenagers were being affected and realized that it all needs to stop (symbolized by the boy with the poster). I chose Cara Delevigne as my main subject because she looks so curious in her portrait, and her eyes are saying something obscure but when one looks at it for a period of time it is saying something.

A glimpse of Everyday
Materials: Adobe Photoshop, Pencil, Paper

Reading, writing and surfing the Internet are of the few things I do on a daily basis. Though school consists of about 8 hours (not really) of conversing and listening to people, I usually try to insert reading, writing and surfing the Internet on my schedule. I feel most relaxed when I do any of these three things, which is why I think it is important to do one of them everyday.
Since the seventh grade, I have considered myself a bookworm. Though I only read books written by Dan Brown or any philosopher, I am open to reading works by Young Adult authors. It is just that the genre does not seem interesting to me. Like the Lord of the Flies, which is what we are reading in English is not interesting at all. Yet, there are a lot of vocabulary words and things that I learned from understanding it, which is why I love reading in general. I am not a fast reader; I could not finish a book in a day. During my free time, I try to read a chapter or two. Reading gives me permission to visit different worlds that are inaccessible by plane. Thus, reading is not only interesting and relaxing. It also satisfies my curiosity.
Do not tell writers that everybody can write. It is for a fact that everyone can string a few sentences together, but only a portion can really write. Never have I thought, I would like writing. At first I thought it was really stressful (it sometimes is), but honestly it is interesting to research different topics then writing about them. For example, like research papers in science. The subject has not really been my forte. Yet, I enjoy writing about how and why things occur and listing different facts about substances which is why I added medical/scientific writing as one of my future goals. I write almost everything from law case briefs to humor poetry; I write about anything and everything which is why it was hard to choose a writing topic for my second GIF, so I wrote the word WRITE in general.
A typical millennial would be someone who cannot live without the internet. With that said, it could develop into an addiction. However, I am the person who you can take the Internet away from and would not call myself depressed (as long as you give me something to do). If I'm on my laptop usually I binge watch wedding videos, research articles or type essays. For my third GIF, I took pictures of my fingers typing. When I was younger, I have always been fascinated how people can type so fast and now I grew up with a laptop and all these technology, I probably type with the same speed. It is just nice to see your fingers dance and how they do not get tired after 12 hours of being used.

Mel vs. Bear
Materials: iMotion, iPad, paint, cardboard, markers, brushes
Graphic Design II (2016)
For this project, Mel and I made a stop motion movie. Our story is about Mel getting attacked by a bear and in the end they reconciled. This is a work of fiction since in real life bears do not apologize. For our props, we made a tree, flag, cut-out letters. We used vibrant colors to add a lively feel to the movie. At the same time, we used a white background so that the scenes would not look very busy. We changed the scenes from here and there, but they did not change the main idea of the movie.
There is really no moral to the story. Well, maybe apology. But I had a feel of what film is all about. It takes a lot of planning, patience, and teamwork. If we didn't plan the movie then it would be a disaster, if we didn't think about our scenes carefully, we would have a lot of redos.
During our shoot, we lacked prop skills, and we realized doing the props seemed longer than shooting the video. In the end, we were able to make the props the way we wanted them to be. We deleted scenes such as the bear sitting down because that means we have to make a 3D bear which would take a lot of our time, and there is another alternative that wouldn't change the story. We decided to add magic effects to the scenes such as the puff effect to make the story less boring.
Overall, the story was about a family, and a girl decided to eat a few of the members, and in the end, reconciled.

Since the beginning of time, "Body Shaming" has been a controversial topic. Modeling agencies only hire girls who are tall, skinny, and doll-like. With that said, girls (especially teens) skip meals and force themselves to throw up after eating in order to pass society's standards. Fashion photography is a field where one should not be comfortable in one's skin in order to please other people. Moreover, fashion photographers and artists use different tools to comply to society's expectations, which is not pragmatic for the common man. Besides being an interesting hobby, I did this project to eliminate social deviation. As a girl who is not skinny, I have been blessed to live in a time period where body shaming heals as time passes by. Yet, there are some areas in the world where it is still prevalent. This project is titled, Just Jessica because Jessica is her own person. She may not be as tall, skinny or quintessential like other girls, but she is a unique individual. Her undereye circles symbolize the number of hours she spent slaving over her textbooks; her uneven skin tone epitomizes the bipolar weather in where she lives; her body is her treasure — something that she only has.
While doing this project, I have come to learn more about Jessica: her outfits represent her different moods; when she grows up, she wants to do something related to art; she is allergic to poison ivy. I have used the film effect because it is a trend. The hazy, moody feeling gives a calm perspective which is like Jessica. Moreover, I did not do a lot of retouching because photoshop could not make a woman feel beautiful and comfortable. It is confidence and believing in oneself which will make a woman feel loved and different.
